It was a soft sound, rasping like a tongue on fur.

It led me on, laced with the scent of vanilla like the sun melting golden on my skin, to find him.

He was frosting a cake in the kitchen, spatula spreading soft chocolate across the cooling cake, humming to himself. Oblivious to me.

Warm caramel. Honey. These are the things I think of when I see him, as he pauses to tuck brown-sugar hair behind his ear, smearing frosting on his cheek.

Spun sugar. Sweetness and light. It's deceptive. You bite into him, you'll break a tooth. He's no cloying snack. That fragile shell hides a core hard as diamond, tempered steel with a chocolate coat.

Chocolate, that sweet streak I want to lick from his skin. I know he'll taste of salt, though, musk at the nape of his neck where I like to burrow my nose in his hair. Cinnamon-spicy in the small of his back.

The humming stops, and he turns towards me, licking the remains of the frosting off the spatula. It's a soft sound, rasping like a tongue on fur.

He gives me a smile, sweet and sharp.

I can't wait to spoil my appetite.
